I’ve written three articles so far about the characters missing from “Marvel Snap.” I still have hundreds left who I haven’t used, and I’m sure that news will make my editor thrilled that there’s more of these coming in the months ahead.
There’s one group of heroes and villains who haven’t been explored in the movies, TV shows, or the games. Who? The other-worldly weirdos, galactic monsters, classic aliens, space cops, gods, cosmic entities, and other freaks who live in outer space.
I’m talkin’ Moondragon, Kronos, and the original Black Dwarf! Although none of those in particular made this list.
Quasar — Good ol’ Wendell Vaughn — the cosmic superhero who got market corrected by Adam Warlock. Quasar is an all-powerful badass who can be incredibly flexible when it comes to card design. Plus, he shoots lasers out of his hands, and he has a cool cape. That helps.
Kraglin — The guy who replaced Yondu as the head of the Ravagers, Kraglin was made famous by being played by Sean Gunn — noted brother of James Gunn. Shocking that he hasn’t been in “Snap” yet — seems like a surefire hit to me.
Phyla-Vell — This one gets complicated, but there have been several versions of Phyla-Vell. She can go by lots of names, some of which ARE in the game already. At various points she’s been Martyr, Captain Marvel, and Quasar. But I would like to submit that there should be a crossover with “Marvel Cosmic Invasion” and the version of Phyla from that game needs to be a card. Look how cool she looks!!
Shuma-Gorath — Any fan of “Marvel vs. Capcom” knows this green squid ball thing. He’s a fav because of how unique he is, the way he transforms and moves, his big eye, the chompers, and the spikes. It’s all idiosyncratic and specific to Shuma-Gorath, and I’ve never seen any alien like him before.
Ikaris, Kingo, Sprite, et al. — This group is literally every other major character from “The Eternals” who is already not in the game. Like the main character of Ikaris, played by Richard Madden. Hell, even Pip is voiced by Patton Oswalt. How is he not in the game yet? People love being horny for trolls!
Balder the Brave — This Odinson family member was supposed to be in an MCU film by now played by Daniel Craig. Alas, that did not come to pass. He’s out in the cosmos doing his thing, and waiting for his time to shine. “Snap” could be that place for him.
The Beyonder — There is no doubt in my mind that the closer we get to the release of “Avengers: Doomsday,” the more likely there will be an entire season with the season pass being The Beyonder. In the comics, he is the one who creates Battleworld (all but guaranteed to be a new location in the game) and starts the Secret Wars. Hey, that’s the name of the Avengers movie after “Doomsday!” He’s a dude, sometimes a Cosmic Cube, and since that’s the currency in the game dictating your rank on the ladder, he’s a lock to join “Snap” within the next twelve months.
Captain Britain — Picture Captain America but British, has Excalibur, and spends more time in outer space. Sometimes has a Union Jack outfit on. Not the greatest hero, but notable enough that he should appear in the game sooner rather than later.
Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg — Remember these two? Of course you do! Jude Law and Annette Bening played these two primary villains from “Captain Marvel.” There’s a lot of expanded lore involving the Kree and the Nova Force that the “Snap” developers could pull from, but considering we haven’t gotten most of them yet, I sense it’s the bottom of the proverbial barrel. That’s why I mention them here.
Erik the Red — Erik is a Shi’ar agent who comes to Earth to fuck shit up. It’s interesting to me that he’s often used in the X-Men comics when he’s a straight-up space weirdo rocking a ridiculous outfit. But he has cool red devil horns, so of course I want him in the game.
Hyperion — I don’t think there’s ever been a generic white guy in a cape who has joined so many other teams. The Exiles, Squadron Supreme, The Avengers, The Eternals; hell, he’ll probably show up as a Midnight Sun or an X-Men soon enough. He just seems like a Superman, but for the Marvel comics.
Jeweler, Puppet Master, Diablo, et al. — These are the C-tier Fantastic Four bad guys who got mentioned in the most recent movie “First Steps.” I like them to varying degrees, and you can easily see them getting certain abilities as cards.
The Maker — This is a version of Reed Richards who becomes a villain. He sports a very cool looking helmet and wants to “solve” everything (whatever that means), and all because that particular universe’s Sue Storm rejects him. I mean, if the love of my life turned me down, I might also become the biggest asshole in the galaxy. The Maker and his elaborate helmet deserves to be in the game.
