I love playing the game “remake, remaster, or reimagining?” It’s not just enough to port older games over, I want a preservationist’s wet dream to happen this generation. If we aren’t going to get more AAA releases from these legacy publishers and older developers, then at least teach the new recruits how to work in UE5 on a kick ass game we already know is kick ass but unavailable to play on current consoles.

Today’s article examines all of the Capcom games I want to return with a modern sheen, and maybe more playable controls. You know, the way some games get their cameras reworked and those pesky tank controls yoinked.

Capcom has been on a modern tear these last few years, and I would love to keep the reign of profitability and goodwill going well into the future. These are all terrific games and the vibes would be immaculate if I could at the very least just get these ported to my Xbox or PlayStation. Hell, why not a Switch 2 NSO drop?

The ‘194X’ Games (1984-2010)

Leave it to Japan to be involved in World War II (on the wrong side) only to then turn around and make these dogfighting games. I don’t care, these games ripped. I love a good old-timey shooter.

Verdict: Port collection, please!

‘Dino Crisis’ Trilogy (1999-2003)

If Capcom runs out of older “RE” games to remake, and it takes too long to make a new one… Then boy do I have three games to fall back on! And they feature a hot red head you can absolutely sell skimpy DLC outfits for. The gooners will make Capcom a trillion dollar company overnight. Considering I’ve never played these games, only watched video essays and let’s plays, I would kill for a remake that does not feature outdated camera angles and wonky controls.

Verdict: Full-on remakes in the RE engine for sure

‘Resident Evil: Code Veronica’ (2000) and ‘Resident Evil: Zero’ (2002)

If they remade “Resident Evil Gaiden” for the Game Boy, or tried to re-do “RE6,” I would still be there on day one. They can do no wrong with this franchise, and I already know they’re working on these two. But they did cut the clocktower stuff from the “RE3” remake, and they did make “RE6” and release it thinking it would be good, so…

Verdict: Remakes in early 2027, let’s go!

The ‘Devil May Cry’ trilogy (2001-2005)

Am I the first person to toss out the concept of just redoing the first three games in the same style and engine as “DMC V?” That seems like such a layup to me — why wouldn’t they do that? I’d buy it!

Verdict: You don’t have to reimagine these, Capcom

And the rest!

  • “Viewtiful Joe”
  • “Viewtiful Joe 2”
  • “Monster Hunter”
  • “Maximo: Ghosts to Glory”
  • “Maximo vs. Army of Zin”
  • “Asura’s Wrath”
  • “God Hand”
  • “Power Stone”
  • “Power Stone 2”
  • “Steel Battalion”
  • “Lost Planet”

At the very least, do what you did with “Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster” two years ago for some of these, and for the others, a full reimagining would crush. The Maximo games as Soulslikes, “Yakuza” style remakes for the earliest “Monster Hunter” games, and a way to play “Steel Battalion” today? There’s your next decade all laid out for you, Capcom. Get to work!
